Celebrate International Credit Union Day with us on Thursday, October 21, 2021!

To celebrate the contribution that credit unions we annually recognize International Credit Union (ICU) Day!  ICU Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948 and is designed to create awareness and celebrate the ways credit unions improve the lives of their members around the world. 

What is in store for Credit Union Day this year?

  • We will have some cookies and balloons in each branch for our members to enjoy! 
  • Members will have a chance to win a prize in branch(es)
  • Annual calendars will be able to pick up. 
  • Launch of a new photo contest!
    • Beginning Thursday, October 18, 2021 and continuing until the Spring 2022, community members will be able to submit photos to win a chance to be featured in a limited edition 2022/2023 LCU calendar and additional LCU marketing materials!  
  • Lakeland Credit Union’s Care Wear program was started by staff as a way of supporting important causes in their communities. Staff pay $2 a week to participate in casual Fridays and twice a year we vote for a local not-for-profit organization to receive the accumulated funds. This year’s recipients will be stopping by to receive their donations!

Lakeland Credit Union Numbers can speak louder than words!

  • Throughout the last fiscal year LCU has provided more than $61,000 in donations and sponsorships, including initiatives in sports, health, youth, arts & culture and community development
  • 64% of our team donated at least one hour of volunteering this year – 1,834 hours to date
  • 7 financial literacy sessions have been facilitated for our members and community despite the obstacles presented by the pandemic
  • $17,000 in scholarships were given out this year! 
  • We have provided more than $17,000 worth of service charge rebates to local not for profit organizations so far this year.
  • Staff have raised more than $118,000 in donations for local charities through the Care Wear initiative since its inception in 2006!
