As a local credit union, Lakeland has seen first-hand the many ways the global COVID-19 pandemic is impacting our Cold Lake and Bonnyville residents. With more and more people struggling through undefined economic times due to job loss, illness, and childcare disruptions, food banks that are deemed essential services — have become more critical than ever.

To help curb food shortages caused by COVID-19, and provide immediate, tangible support for the communities we serve, Lakeland Credit Union is donating $100,000 to be shared between two food banks in our region. Being a member-owned organization, we must step-up and deliver assistance to our members and communities at large, ensuring they continue to flourish.

“As the impacts of COVID-19 continue to grow, the strain on our food banks will increase, and this donation will help keep these vital community services operating throughout these unprecedented times,” said Board Chair, Charmaine Code.

LCU started with just ten people who wanted change and more value in their financial institution. Forming the St. Louis Savings and Credit Union on May 7, 1940, these forward thinkers took the first steps in building the credit union we admire today.
